A sample question from Lower Level
Five pencils cost $1.50. What is the cost of one pencil?
Answer: $0.30
Worked solution
- $1.50 ÷ 5 = $0.30.
- Check: 5 × $0.30 = $1.50.
Read-only. Every other question opens after sign-in; each child's first round is free.
ISEE Middle Level — Quantitative Reasoning
Grades 6–7
For students applying to grades 7–8. The reasoning math section of the ISEE: word problems that reward number sense, patterns, proportional and algebraic thinking, geometry and data — plus quantitative comparisons (Column A vs Column B). 37 questions in 35 minutes, no calculator.

A sample question from Middle Level
The first bus of the day leaves the station at 6:00 a.m. After that, a bus leaves every 18 minutes. Each bus can carry 40 people. How many buses leave the station from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., including any that leave at exactly 9:00 a.m.?
Answer: 11
Worked solution
- From 6:00 to 9:00 is 180 minutes, and buses leave at 0, 18, 36, …, 180 minutes.
- 180 ÷ 18 = 10 gaps between buses.
- 10 gaps means 11 buses, counting the 6:00 bus. The 40 people is not needed.
Read-only. Every other question opens after sign-in; each child's first round is free.
ISEE Upper Level — Quantitative Reasoning
Grades 8–11
For students applying to grades 9–12. The reasoning math section of the ISEE: algebraic and number reasoning, rates and functions, geometric reasoning, data and probability, and quantitative comparisons with variables. 37 questions in 35 minutes, no calculator.

A sample question from Upper Level
A right triangle has a hypotenuse of length 10. Column A: The area of the triangle Column B: 20 Compare the quantity in Column A with the quantity in Column B.
Answer: The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.
Worked solution
- The legs a and b satisfy a² + b² = 100, and the area is ab/2.
- Legs 6 and 8: area = 24, greater than 20.
- Legs 2 and √96: area = √96 ≈ 9.8, less than 20.
- Both triangles are possible, so it cannot be determined.
Read-only. Every other question opens after sign-in; each child's first round is free.
