What Middle Level covers

The curriculum half of ISEE math: computation and procedures a 6th–7th grader is expected to know, in the section's own areas — whole numbers and integers, fractions and decimals, ratios and percents, algebraic concepts, geometry and measurement, and data and probability. 47 questions in 40 minutes, four choices each.

Unit questions open after sign-in with a Series pass. Each child's first round is free, with its summary.

  1. Numbers & Operations

Integers, order of operations, fractions and decimals.

    2 units

    • Operations & Integers — Order of operations every time: parentheses, powers, multiplication/division left to right, then addition/subtraction left to right.
    • Fractions & Decimals — Common denominators to add; multiply straight across; divide by multiplying by the reciprocal.
  2. Ratios & Percents

    Ratios, rates and percent problems.

    1 unit

  3. Algebraic Concepts

    Expressions, equations, inequalities and patterns.

    1 unit

    • Expressions & Equations — Undo operations in reverse order; keep both sides balanced. Substitute carefully, powers first.
  4. Geometry & Measurement

Area, perimeter, volume, angles, units and the coordinate plane.

    1 unit

  5. Data Analysis & Probability

Mean, median, range and simple probability.

    1 unit

    • Data & Probability — Mean = sum ÷ count; median = middle of the ORDERED list; probability = favourable ÷ total.
  6. More topics

Further topics from the exam's official scope.

    19 units

Moving up to Upper Level

  • Cover at least 80% of this Level's knowledge points, with at least 50% of them mastered (confirmed by spaced review, not one good day).
  • Pass 2 full-length practice exams on different papers, at least 7 days apart, within 60 days.
  • Answer at a steady pace: a median of 51 seconds a question or less.
  • Or, when the signs are there, take the next Level's entry check: 75% or more moves up straight away.

A sample question from Middle Level

What is the smallest whole number that has exactly 6 factors?

Answer: 12

Worked solution

  1. Check in order: 1 to 11 each have fewer than 6 factors.
  2. 12 has factors 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 — exactly 6.

Read-only. Every other question opens after sign-in; each child's first round is free.
