What Upper Level covers

The two quantitative sections of the Upper Level SSAT for students now in grades 8–11: arithmetic, number properties and exponents, fractions, percents and ratios, linear equations, inequalities, defined operations, algebra word problems and slope, angles, area, circles and volume, averages, graphs and probability, and spatial-logic and counting puzzles. 50 questions in two 25-question, 30-minute sections; five choices, no calculator, a quarter point off for each wrong answer.

Unit questions open after sign-in with a Series pass. Each child's first round is free, with its summary.

  1. Number Concepts & Operations

Arithmetic, number properties, exponents and roots.

    3 units

    • Arithmetic, Estimation & Units — Round to friendly numbers when the choices are spread out; convert units before you compute.
    • Number Properties — Use small test numbers for 'must be' items; count multiples with ⌊n ÷ k⌋.
    • Exponents & Roots — Same base: multiply → add exponents; power of a power → multiply exponents.
  2. Fractions, Decimals, Percents & Ratios

Part-of-a-whole reasoning, reverse percents and rates.

    3 units

  3. Algebra

Equations, inequalities, defined operations, word problems and lines.

    5 units

  4. Geometry & Measurement

Angles, triangles, area, circles and solids.

    3 units

  5. Data Analysis & Probability

    Averages, graphs and probability.

    3 units

    • Averages & Weighted Averages — Average × count = total; for groups, combine the totals, not the averages.
    • Graphs & Tables — Read titles, axes and units first; most graph items are one subtraction or one percent.
    • Probability — Favourable ÷ total; for 'and' without replacement, multiply and shrink the total each draw.
  6. Spatial & Logical Reasoning

The SSAT's 'other concepts': visual puzzles, digit puzzles and counting.

    2 units

    • Spatial & Logic Puzzles — Find the invariant: layers in a fold, odd corners in a figure, carries in a sum.
    • Sets & Counting — Overlaps: total = A + B − both + neither. Inclusive counts: last − first + 1.

This is the top Level of the Series.

A sample question from Upper Level

Which of the following is greater than 5/8?

Answer: 1320\dfrac{13}{20}

Worked solution

  1. 5/8 = 0.625.
  2. As decimals: 3/5 = 0.6, 20/32 = 0.625 (equal, not greater), 13/20 = 0.65, 7/12 ≈ 0.583, 9/16 = 0.5625.
  3. Only 13/20 is greater than 5/8.

Read-only. Every other question opens after sign-in; each child's first round is free.

Questions families ask

What does Prep cover for SSAT Quantitative?
Elementary Level, Middle Level, Upper Level. Each Level has its own chapter map, practice rounds, sealed practice exams with every answer and worked solution at the end, and a published gate to the next Level.
When is the next SSAT Quantitative date?
The next official date has not been announced yet. We update the page as soon as the organizer publishes it.
How much does it cost?
Each child's first round and its summary are free, with no card needed. After that, a Series pass is $14.99 a month for the whole family (up to 5 people) and covers every Level of the Series, so moving up never meets a new paywall.
