What Elementary Level covers
The math section of the Elementary Level SSAT for students now in grades 3–4: whole-number operations and place value, fractions and decimals, patterns, money and simple ratios, shapes and spatial puzzles, measurement and time, and graphs and chance. 30 questions in 30 minutes, five choices, no calculator, no penalty for wrong answers.
Unit questions open after sign-in with a Series pass. Each child's first round is free, with its summary.
Number Sense & Operations
Computing with whole numbers, place value, number properties and fractions.
4 units
- Whole-Number Operations — Line up place values, regroup carefully, and in a word problem underline what is asked before you compute.
- Place Value, Number Line & Estimation — Name each digit's place out loud (ten-thousands, thousands…). To estimate, round first, then compute.
- Odd, Even, Factors & Remainders — Test choices one by one: is it odd? does it divide evenly? what is left over?
- Fractions & Decimals — Make the denominators match before you add or compare; for decimals, line up the decimal points and fill in zeros.
Algebra & Functions
Patterns, missing numbers and simple relationships.
2 units
- Patterns & Missing Numbers — Find the rule between neighbours (add? multiply?), check it on every pair, then apply it once more.
- Money & Simple Ratios — Work in cents if dollars feel slippery; for 'for every', make a little table of groups.
Geometry & Spatial Sense
Shapes, angles, perimeter and area — and the SSAT's spatial puzzles.
2 units
- Shapes, Angles & Perimeter — Perimeter goes AROUND (add the sides); area COVERS (length × width). A straight line is 180°.
- Spatial Reasoning: Cubes, Folds & Paths — Act it out: picture the fold, count layers, or trace the path with your finger before choosing.
Measurement
Time, length, weight and capacity in customary units.
1 unit
- Measurement & Time — Convert to ONE unit first (all inches, all minutes), then compute.
Data & Probability
Tables, picture graphs, bar graphs and chance.
1 unit
- Graphs, Tables & Chance — Read the key first (one symbol = how many?), then read the exact row you need. For chance, compare how many of each.
Moving up to Middle Level
- Cover at least 80% of this Level's knowledge points, with at least 50% of them mastered (confirmed by spaced review, not one good day).
- Pass 2 full-length practice exams on different papers, at least 7 days apart, within 60 days.
- Answer at a steady pace: a median of 60 seconds a question or less.
- Or, when the signs are there, take the next Level's entry check: 75% or more moves up straight away.
A sample question from Elementary Level
A table shows the pets in a class: Dogs 8, Cats 5, Fish 3. How many pets are in the table in all?
Answer: 16
Worked solution
- Add the three numbers: 8 + 5 + 3.
- 8 + 5 + 3 = 16.
- Tempting wrong choice 13: left out the fish.
Read-only. Every other question opens after sign-in; each child's first round is free.
Questions families ask
- What does Prep cover for SSAT Quantitative?
- Elementary Level, Middle Level, Upper Level. Each Level has its own chapter map, practice rounds, sealed practice exams with every answer and worked solution at the end, and a published gate to the next Level.
- When is the next SSAT Quantitative date?
- The next official date has not been announced yet. We update the page as soon as the organizer publishes it.
- How much does it cost?
- Each child's first round and its summary are free, with no card needed. After that, a Series pass is $14.99 a month for the whole family (up to 5 people) and covers every Level of the Series, so moving up never meets a new paywall.
- Does Prep guarantee a score?
- No. Prep shows exactly what your child has mastered, what comes next and when they are ready for the next Level. Nobody can promise a contest result.
