What Levels 7–8 covers
Math Kangaroo rewards clever reasoning over memorized formulas. This map organizes the bank into the core domains the contest draws on — number sense, algebra, geometry, counting, and the patterns-logic-time puzzles that give Kangaroo its flavor.
Unit questions open after sign-in with a Series pass. Each child's first round is free, with its summary.
Numbers & Arithmetic
Whole-number sense, fractions and ratios, and the divisibility ideas that underlie number theory.
1 unit
- Primes & Set Counting — Sums of primes and counting with inclusion-exclusion.
Algebra & Word Problems
Turning situations into equations and solving for the unknown.
2 units
- Equations & Systems — Solving linear equations, systems, and puzzles for a missing value.
- Real-World Algebra — Age problems and percent discounts translated into algebra.
Geometry & Spatial Reasoning
Measuring flat shapes, visualizing solids, and reasoning about angles and polygons.
1 unit
- Geometry & Solids — Building, gluing, and painting cubes and counting their faces and edges.
Counting & Probability
Systematic counting of arrangements, paths, and shapes, and the probabilities they produce.
3 units
- Arrangements & Selections — Ordering objects and forming digit strings and passwords, with and without repetition.

Moving up to Levels 9–10
- Cover at least 80% of this Level's knowledge points, with at least 50% of them mastered (confirmed by spaced review, not one good day).
- Pass 2 full-length practice exams on different papers, at least 7 days apart, within 60 days.
- Answer at a steady pace: a median of 150 seconds a question or less.
- Or, when the signs are there, take the next Level's entry check: 75% or more moves up straight away.
A sample question from Levels 7–8
Words are written in plain capital letters. Which word has a vertical line of symmetry when its letters are stacked one above another, and also a horizontal line of symmetry when it is written normally across the page?
Answer: OHIO
Worked solution
- Stacked one above another, the word has a vertical line of symmetry only if every letter has one.
- Written across the page, it has a horizontal line of symmetry only if every letter has one.
- So every letter needs both lines: only H, I, O and X qualify.
- TOOT and AXIOM fail across the page (T, A, M); BOX and HIKE fail when stacked (B, K, E). OHIO works.
Read-only. Every other question opens after sign-in; each child's first round is free.
Questions families ask
- What does Prep cover for Math Kangaroo?
- Levels 1–2, Levels 3–4, Levels 5–6, Levels 7–8, Levels 9–10, Levels 11–12. Each Level has its own chapter map, practice rounds, sealed practice exams with every answer and worked solution at the end, and a published gate to the next Level.
- When is the next Math Kangaroo date?
- Mar 18, 2027 · Math Kangaroo 2027 · Thu Mar 18, 2027 (all levels). Always check the organizer's site before registering.
- How much does it cost?
- Each child's first round and its summary are free, with no card needed. After that, a Series pass is $14.99 a month for the whole family (up to 5 people) and covers every Level of the Series, so moving up never meets a new paywall.
- Does Prep guarantee a score?
- No. Prep shows exactly what your child has mastered, what comes next and when they are ready for the next Level. Nobody can promise a contest result.
